We would like to take this opportunity to advise you about a Google ranking factor related to pop-up advertising on websites. While few surgeons offer outside advertising on their websites, some do use pop-up ads to announce specials, practice news, etc. And this is a potential problem.

Google measures the intrusiveness of pop-up advertisements and other ads on websites using a metric called the Ad Experience Report. If a website receives a poor grade on this report, its rankings can be adversely affected.

The good news is that our SEO team actively utilizes the Ad Experience Report to determine the suitability of any advertising on our clients’ websites, assess the overall performance of the websites, and make recommendations for changes. If we find any issues with your website relating to this report and ranking factor, we will, of course, let you know.

Here are some of the things we look at in the Ad Experience Report:

Irritating pop-up ads. Readers do not consider all pop-ups to be irritating. However, Ceatus can assess your report and recommend user-friendly ads to replace the ones that readers do consider irritating. For example, in some cases a full-screen, in-line ad can be used in lieu of a pop-up ad to grab the attention of readers without covering up content.

Desktop vs. Mobile. The Ad Experience Report addresses the desktop and mobile versions of your website separately. Specifically, it looks at how ads are displayed on each version. In some cases, the ads are considered less irritating on one version than the other. Ceatus looks at each format and determines how ads are affecting the desktop and mobile versions of your website.

Creative Issues. Flashing animated ads and autoplay videos are just two examples of potential creative issues relating to ads. Should either of these situations pose a problem, the solution will depend on the issue. In some cases, it may involve removing all of the ads; in others, adjusting the ads or reducing the number of ads will suffice. Ceatus has the knowledge and experience necessary to make these determinations and adjust your strategy accordingly.

At Ceatus, we go to great lengths to keep your site in sync with the ongoing changes to Google’s parameters and ranking algorithm and ensure your success. Contact us today to learn more.
